Quick tips for better pics

Use your camera's flash.

Always ask permission before taking someone's portrait. If possible, jot down their name and their hometown for reference.

Share only flattering photos of family and friends.

Give your camera time to auto-focus. Generally, pressing the shutter-release button halfway will set the auto-focus, white balance, and exposure for most digital cameras.

Hold your camera steady to avoid blurry pictures.

Move-in close—fill the picture frame with your subject.

Keep backgrounds simple (tip #6 can help).

Be very cautious of your camera's "red-eye" flash feature. Too often people blink during the pre-flash sequence.

Take more than one picture when photographing a large group.
